CBD Quick Tips for the Novice

Good Practices for Entertaining the Use of CBD

CBD (cannabidiol) is generally considered safe and well-tolerated. However, it’s still important to talk to your healthcare provider before using it, especially if you are taking any medications or have any underlying health conditions. CBD can interact with certain medications, so it’s important to make sure it’s safe for you to use. Additionally, while many people report feeling immediate benefits from using CBD, they are others that claim weeks before feeling the effects. Know your CBD’s! Know CBD is not a cure-all and it may not work for everyone, so it’s important to manage your expectations and use it as part of an overall wellness plan.

Here are some quick CBD tips:

  1. It’s very important to always purchase high-quality products from reputable sources. CBD is not currently regulated by the FDA, which means that the quality and potency of products can vary widely. Look for products that have been tested by a third-party laboratory and that provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) to ensure that the product contains the amount of CBD that is advertised and that it is free of contaminants.
  2. Medications: If you are taking any medications or plan to be taking medications while also taking CBD, prescription or over the counter be sure to talk to your healthcare provider before taking CBD, as it can interact with certain medications and more importantly taking medications “all-at-once” can reduce the efficacy of all some or all of your medications.
  3. Consider the method of ingestion: CBD is available in a variety of forms, including tinctures, capsules, topicals, and edibles. Consider which method of ingestion is most convenient and comfortable for you. *NanoPlanet CBD contends that any form of smoking and/or vaping are NOT preferred methods of intake.

  4. If you are using a CBD tincture:
    • Be sure to Shake the bottle before using.
    • Keep your tincture out of direct sunlight.
    • Know how much to pull into your dropper (dosage).
    • When deciding which to purchase, pick a dark brown or black bottle.
    • Store CBD oil in its original packaging to prevent unnecessary exposure to air. Store oil at room temperature, which is typically around 60 to 70°F (16 to 21°C)
  5. Start with a low dose: When you first start taking CBD it’s best to start with a low dose and gradually increase it until you achieve the desired effects. This will help you avoid any potential side effects and ensure that you are using the product safely.

  6. Be patient: CBD may take some time to work, so be patient and consistent with your dosing. It’s also important to remember that CBD is not a cure-all and should be used as part of a comprehensive approach to health, wellness and knowledge.

  7. Monitor your response: Pay attention to how your body responds to CBD and adjust your dose or method of ingestion as needed. If you experience any adverse side effects, stop taking CBD and talk to your doctor.
